SUNSET DATES FOR NON-COMPLIANT RADIO EQUIPMENT:

VHF-FM

31 December 1998: Only VHF FM wide band compliant equipment may be added. Non-compliant equipment already in use prior to this date may remain for now. No CAP corporate or appropriated funds may be used to purchase equipment that is not NTIA narrow band compliant. EXCEPTION: CAP can continue to accept donated, screened, or personally funded equipment that is compliant with NTIA wide band specifications through 31 December 2004.

31 December 2001: All equipment that is not compliant with NTIA wideband specifications must be taken out of service. (Although there is an exception to corporate aircraft radio equipment only).

31 December 2004: All new equipment purchased, screened, donated, or personally funded must be compliant with NTIA narrow band standards. Older wide band compliant radios already in use may be used until the transition to narrow band frequencies.

31 December 2005: CAP will be prepared to transition to new narrow band channels when given approval by AFFMA.

1 January 2009 : Narrow band transition must be completed by law.

 

HF SSB

31 December 1998: All new HF SSB must be compliant with NTIA specifications. Older equipment already in use may continue to be used for now.

31 December 2001: All HF SSB equipment that does not meet NTIA specifications must be removed from service.
